V.Scientific Research and Dissertations

The core of the doctoral dissertation is to embody knowledge innovation and achieve creative research results through scientific research. Writing a dissertation is an important link in doctoral training. It is a comprehensive training for doctoral students in management science research or engineering work. It is a process of cultivating the doctoral students'innovative ability, using their knowledge to find, analyze and solve problems. It is also the basis for applying for and awarding a degree.

1. Paper requirements: Doctoral dissertation must make innovative research results in management science or engineering technology, contribute to the progress of science and technology and economic and social development in China, show that the author has the ability to independently engage in scientific research, and reflect that the author has a solid and broad grasp of the basic theories and a deep professional knowledge in this discipline.

2. Thesis topic selection: Doctoral students determine the research direction under the guidance of their tutors. By consulting literature, collecting data and investigating research, they understand the current situation and development trends of this research field at home and abroad, and on this basis determine the topic of the thesis, which should reflect the frontier and advanced nature of the subject field. Doctoral dissertations should generally be selected no later than by the end of the second semester.

3. Opening report: The time of the opening report is determined by the tutor according to the progress of doctoral students'work. The opening report should be completed at the end of the fourth semester, and the latest time is not less than one and a half years.

The opening report of doctoral students must be conducted publicly within the scope of the discipline or related disciplines. The tutor organizes 3-5 experts (more than 3 professors) of the relevant disciplines to examine the opening report.

After the opening of a topic, if the topic needs to be changed due to special reasons, it must be reopened, or the doctoral student himself submits a written application report, specifying the reasons for the change and the specific content of the new topic, the content of which is the same as that of the opening report, which shall be submitted to the Sub-Committee of degree evaluation of the training unit for examination and approval and submitted to the International School for record.

4. Mid-term assessment of dissertation and dissertation writing: Mid-term assessment is usually carried out when the research work of the dissertation is about half done and more than one academic paper has been written. The specific time is determined by the tutor, and it is usually completed in the fifth to sixth semester. The interim report and assessment form shall be submitted to the training unit for archiving.

Doctoral dissertations should be completed independently under the guidance of tutors or guidance groups. The results should meet the requirements of the Regulations on Doctoral Degree Training for Overseas Students in Shijiazhuang Railway University.

5. Pre-defense of dissertation: Doctoral students have to make pre-defense of their dissertation after completing their dissertation.
